With the chilly winter weather in full effect on the North Shore, it’s the perfect time to explore the wide variety of indoor recreational activities available in the area. Read on to learn more about some of the best spots for some indoor fun on the Essex Coastal Scenic Byway.

Candlepin Bowling

Enjoy a lively afternoon partaking in the classic New England pastime of candlepin bowling! Candlepin bowling is a variation of the game with a smaller handheld-sized ball and narrow pins, or “candles”. It was invented in Worcester, Massachusetts in the 1880’s and is still very popular today. There are a few great spots along the Byway!
