Lynn Museum/LynnArts

Located in the heart of Lynn, the Lynn Museum/LynnArts is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history and culture of the city. For 125 years, the Lynn Museum & Historical Society has been the repository and custodian of Lynn’s history. With nearly 10,000 objects, an extensive archive, and a priceless photography collection, the Museum showcases Lynn’s rise from an early American settlement to an industrial powerhouse. They also host community events, workshops, and performances, making it a vibrant cultural hub.

Cape Ann Museum

The Cape Ann Museum in Gloucester is a treasure trove of art, history, and maritime heritage. Hammond Castle Museum

Ipswich Museum

Something very special about the Ipswich Museum is that it owns the largest single collection of works by Arthur Wesley Down, including oil paintings, watercolors, photographs, ink wash drawings, wood block prints, and plaster casts. Additionally, they offer a rotating offering of other special exhibits, on view now is “A Tribute to the Ipswich Clammer” —  a not-to-be-missed experience! Ipswich was home to many famous painters, do yourself a favor and enjoy the impressive collections at the Ipswich Museum which will reopen for tours starting Memorial Day.

The Essex Shipbuilding Museum

Located in the historic village of Essex, The Essex Shipbuilding Museum is a treasure trove for maritime enthusiasts. One of the most historically unique museums along the Byway, it pays homage to the rich shipbuilding heritage of the area, which was once known as the “Shipbuilding Capital of the World.” Explore exhibits that showcase the tools, techniques, and stories behind the construction of wooden ships. 

In the off-season, the museum may be closed to public tours but the site is still occupied by education programs, volunteer groups, and other private programs and events. 

Maritime Gloucester

Situated in Gloucester’s historic harbor, Maritime Gloucester is a working waterfront, maritime museum, and sea pocket aquarium all rolled into one exciting spot for all. Museum of Old Newbury

In the charming town of Newburyport, the Museum of Old Newbury provides a fascinating glimpse into the town’s rich history and heritage. The history of Newburyport, Newbury, West Newbury, Byfield, and Plum Island has been gathered, preserved, and presented by the Museum of Old Newbury since 1877. They tell the histories of local people over the previous four centuries through artifacts, paintings, and documents.
