Along coastal Route 127, the communities of Beverly and Manchester-by-the-Sea form what became known as “The Gold Coast” in the late 19th and early 20th centuries when wealthy elites from Boston and beyond built large summer estates. Behind the tall walls and plantings, catch glimpses of the large summer mansions once occupied by the elite, including President Taft whose summer White House was located at what is now the seaside Lynch Park in 1909-10.
